ANCHOR UNIVERSITY HOLDS 4TH MATRICULATION

ANCHOR UNIVERSITY HOLDS 4TH MATRICULATION
Anchor University, Lagos (AUL), a faith-based University owned by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry holds her 4th Matriculation Ceremony on Friday, 6th March 2020 at the University’s Auditorium in Ayobo, Lagos.
The University, since it commenced operations three years ago, 6th February 2017, has held three Matriculation programmes and is set for the fourth Ceremony as well as her Convocation later in the year. The notable achievements and milestones of Anchor University within her first three years has re-emphasised that seriousness with which the vision of the founder, Pastor (Dr) Williams Folorunso Kumuyi, is being driven by the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afolayan Joseph Olaseinde and his Management team.
“Anchor University is not here to add to the number of Universities in Nigeria, it is birthed with a divine mandate. We are here to nurture graduates who are competent, disciplined and who will exhibit good character anywhere they work.
In the first ten years of our existence as a University, I look forward to having Anchor University as one of the five leading Universities in Nigeria.” The Vice-Chancellor had said during an interview with a team of journalist at the inception of the University.
Today, the vision remains the same. Our students have proven their mettle on several occasions and have distinguished themselves in different national and local examinations. The quality workforce and facilities in AUL is growing every day.
We are extending the frontier of knowledge beyond the limits of the regular conventional Universities around. It is on record that since inception, despite teething and expected challenges, there has never been downtown in our programmes. We have continued to drive the vision of nurturing worthy leaders for the emerging industries and economies with the possible utmost commitment and genuineness.
The Matriculation Ceremony will begin by 10.00 am at the University’s Main Auditorium. All guests are expected to be on seats by 9.30 am.

Breaking News, Convid-19

The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case in Lagos State, Nigeria. The case, which was confirmed on the 27th of February 2020, is the first case to be reported in Nigeria since the beginning of the outbreak in China in January 2020.

The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February 2020. He was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.

The Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health has been strengthening measures to ensure an outbreak in Nigeria is controlled and contained quickly. The multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Group led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has immediately activated its national Emergency Operations Centre and will work closely with Lagos State Health authorities to respond to this case and implement firm control measures.

I wish to assure all Nigerians that have we have been beefing up our preparedness capabilities since the first confirmation of cases in China, and we will use all the resources made available by the government to respond to this case.

We have already started working to identify all the contacts of the patient, since he entered Nigeria. Please be reminded that most people who become infected may experience only mild illness and recover easily, but it can be more severe in others, particularly the elderly and persons with other underlying chronic illnesses. All Nigerians should take care of their health and maintain hand and respiratory hygiene to protect themselves and others, including their own families, following the precautions below:

1. Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

2. Maintain at least 1 & half metres (5 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

3. Persons with persistent cough or sneezing should stay home or keep a social distance, but not mix in-crowd.

4. Make sure you and people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene, meaning cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or into your sleeve at the bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

5. Stay home if you feel unwell with symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing. Please call NCDC toll free number which is available day and night, for guidance- 0800-970000-10. Do not engage in self-medication.

6. Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19 through official channels on TV and Radio, including the Lagos State Ministry of Health, NCDC and Federal Ministry of Health.

Citizens must not abuse social media and indulge in spreading misinformation that causes fear and panic. The Federal Ministry of Health, through Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, will continue to provide updates and will initiate all measures required to prevent the spread of any outbreak in Nigeria.

Dr Osagie Ehanire
Hon. Minister of Health

Remember when you were a careless eight year old kid riding a bike with your friends, racing each other around the neighborhood? Remember that feeling of absolute freedom as you felt the wind in your hair and the smile it put on your face? I never thought I would feel that way as a grown up, until my friends presented me a red brand-new bike. At first, I was a bit skeptical about the total idea of commuting by bike. One morning a couple of days later, I changed completely my mind.
I was stuck at a traffic jam and saw in my rear mirror a man in a suit riding a classy bike with his laptop case in one hand and a handlebar in the other. I figured out it would take him about 15 minutes to get to the office while I was still sitting in my car and waiting for the cars in line ahead to move , even if just for a inch. I was always very afraid of being late for my business meetings.
That is when I decided getting on the bike. I haven’t regretted my decision so far. One of the best things about cycling is that the bike is perfect for exercising. Just cycling to and from work or to the shops every day is enough to keep you healthy and happy. Besides, its incredibly liberating to be able to get anywhere without loosing time in traffic jams. Also don’t forget about the environment benefits. Cycling helps to reduce air pollution while reducing also traffic congestion and the need for gas.
At some point, I realized that I started to use the bike more often, not only to get to work, but also to catch up with friends and to head out for coffee on weekends. I loved this style of traveling because it lets you really appreciate what you are seeing around you. You can stop anywhere you want and yet you can cover alot of distance. That daily distance I rode to work was no longer enough for me. I started riding to the nearest decent mountain bike trails so I could spent the day going up and down hills. I did it because it was fun. Because I enjoyed it.
“I wish I could bike all the way round the world” I said to myself one day. And than I thought, “Why not?”
OK, I knew I couldn’t ride across the oceans. I came up with the idea to ride across each of the continents, from coast to coast. The more I thought about it, the more excited I became about my future plans. If I will do this, I will have to thoroughly prepare, I thought. I was also very scare. Would I be able to make it over towering mountains and across burning deserts? What if I got lost somewhere and didn’t know the language?
After a few months of training, I set off. This was hard at first, but soon I realized that everywhere I went people cheered me on when they heared about my journey. The newspaper back home reported on my progress. Once or twice I ran out of money and has to spend a couple weeks doing odd jobs before I could continue on my way . I never gave up on my idea, and a year and six month later, I found myself petaling back toward the place where it all began. my journey was over and I was home.
These days, I continue exploring the world with  my bike as often as I can. Thanks to my bike, I’ve made countless friends, seen incredible sights, and had unforgettable adventures. I would have missed out on all of that if I hadn’t decide to try biking instead of driving! I guess there are an upside to traffic jams after all!
